The UFC has seen 10 new champions crowned this year, a remarkable feat. One of those title changes belongs to Alexa Grasso, who looks to hold onto the UFC flyweight title against former champion Valentina Shevchenko at Noche UFC on September 16.

Airing on Mexican Independence Day, Noche UFC is on ESPN+ in the U.S. and is in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, a rare non-PPV event at that venue.

The only current UFC champion from Mexico, Grasso looks to impress on a fight date usually scheduled for boxing great Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. She wants to add to the legacy of past and present Mexican fighters who have competed this weekend by putting on a dominant performance.

When they first faced one another, Shevchenko landed 87 significant strikes while Grasso landed 59. One mistake by Shevchenko couldn't prepare her for a surprising submission win from Grasso. The result of the first bout makes the sequel as unpredictable as one might imagine, especially in the eyes of the champion.

“I can’t say it’s going to be the same fight because I don’t know how she’s going to come out,” Grasso told MMA Junkie. “She’s always waiting but now said she’s going to come out more aggressive, so I hope that’s the case. I hope she comes with everything because we’re ready.

“Wherever she wants to take the fight, I’m ready. I’m excited, and I’m eager to get in the octagon. I want to fight now. I’m so excited. Of course, things like the first fight can happen. We all have our weak points and strengths, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Shevchenko had a nine-fight win streak dating back to 2018 snapped. "Bullet" has patiently waited for a shot at redemption and will look to inflict damage on the woman who ended her long reign as champion.
