A's relocation update: Owner John Fisher says he will spend in Las Vegas, blames Oakland for looming move image

The A's franchise is moving one step closer to officially relocating, and owner John Fisher is letting it be known where he believes the blame for the move should be placed.

Fisher gave an update to ESPN on Thursday night about the A's future in Oakland, stating that the franchise has submitted its application for relocation to MLB. If approved, that will pave the way for the move club's to Las Vegas.

The longtime Athletics owner spoke about a number of factors that played a role in his decision, but what prominently stood out was his emphasis on the fact that he and A's felt that the city of Oakland did not get enough public funding to provide a new stadium in the area.

"In the end, we concluded that the city had not raised sufficient money to cover the commitments it made," Fisher said. "We also had a deadline imposed by the collective bargaining agreement from a year and a half ago that required the A's have a binding agreement on a new stadium by January of 2024 or we would lose our revenue sharing, which would be hugely detrimental to the organization."
