The Miami Heat today announced that star guard Victor Oladipo is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his right quadriceps tendon.

Oladipo began the season with the Indiana Pacers before being traded to the Houston Rockets as part of the deal that sent James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets. He was then traded from the Rockets to the Heat at the trade deadline, sending Kelly Olynyk, Avery Bradley and a 2022 first-round pick to Houston for the two-time All-Star.
The deal was set to give Oladipo a chance to prove himself on a team with title aspirations, but he only appeared in four games with Miami, averaging 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 37.2 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from 3-point range before re-aggravating a quad injury he suffered with Houston.
He had since been out since April 9 before the team announced that he will miss the remainder of the season.
The Heat only recently clinched a solidified playoff spot, avoiding the Play-In Tournament as they pursue a path back to the NBA Finals for the second consecutive season.
Oladipo, 29, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Averaging 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.4 steals over 33 games with three different teams, it will be interesting to see what type of contract the former All-NBA guard receives coming off of another injury.
