Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to honour former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni by naming a seat at the famous Wankhede Stadium after him.

12 years ago, on 2 April 2011, Dhoni sealed India's second ODI World Cup title by hitting a six off Nuwan Kulasekara's delivery. The seat where the ball landed has been identified and will be named after the legendary player.

On immortalising Dhoni's World Cup-winning six, MCA president Amol Kale said in a statement,

Today, the MCA Apex Council has decided to make a small victory memorial in Wankhede Stadium stands to commemorate India's 2011 World Cup win. The memorial will be built at the location where MS Dhoni's historic winning six had landed in the stands.

Kale also mentioned that they would request the Chennai Super Kings captain to grace the occasion and the MCA would also felicitate him.

How many runs did MS Dhoni score in 2011 World Cup final?

MS Dhoni scored a match-winning 91* off 79 balls which included eight fours and two sixes. The innings helped India win the match from a precarious position.

Which other Indian legends have been honoured at Wankhede Stadium?

The iconic stadium in Mumbai have stands named after Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant. They also have two gates named after  Polly Umrigar and Vinoo Mankad.

When is MS Dhoni playing next?

The 41-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman will be next seen in action on April 8 when Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
