Sergio Perez is currently in his fourth season with Red Bull in Formula 1.
The Mexican driver may not be at the level of teammate Max Verstappen just yet, but he has played a key role in the team's recent dominance in the constructors' standings.
While his legal name is Sergio Michel Perez Mendoza, he is regularly referred to as 'Checo', but there is a very simple reason for that.

Why is Sergio Perez called 'Checo'?
Checo is simply a common Mexican nickname for Sergio.
"It's not really that complicated or interesting," Perez said in 2013. "In Mexico, all Sergio(s) are automatically given the nickname 'Checo', so there's no story behind it."
As an example, it is similar to James being shortened to 'Jim' in English-speaking countries.
Nicknames like this are common in Spanish-speaking countries.
'Beto' is often used for Roberto or Alberto, 'Chava' for Salvador or 'Chimo'/'Quino' for Joaquin.
Where does Sergio Perez live?
According to Diario AS, Perez currently lives in his native Mexico, where he owns a mansion in Puerto Vallarta.
The 34-year-old has previously lived in Spain and the United Kingdom throughout his racing career.
