Competitive football action for the 2024-25 season begins for Real Madrid with a trip to Warsaw, Poland on August 14. There will be a chance to win the first title of the season on that day itself, as Los Blancos take on Serie A side Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup.
The one-off yearly fixture is played between the winners of the previous season's Champions League and Europa League.
Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on June 2 to win their record-extending 15th Champions League title. Just over a week earlier, Atalanta defied the odds to beat the highly-fancied Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen side 3-0 to earn the club's first-ever piece of continental silverware.

Real Madrid vs Atalanta lineups, team news
Real Madrid will be without the services of the now-retired Toni Kroos for the first time in competitive action, while Nacho Fernandez has moved to the Saudi Pro League to play for Al-Qadsian.
Carlo Ancelotti's team will also be without David Alaba, who is still recovering from an ACL injury.
What the Spanish giants will have, however, is Kylian Mbappe. The France captain made a summer move to Madrid following a seven-season stint at Paris Saint-Germain and while he didn't play on the preseason tour in the United States, he has been in Madrid training.
It remains to be seen whether Jude Bellingham will be eased back into action with a bit-part role, with Ancelotti thought to be keen to give him maximum rest after his exploits with England at Euro 2024.
Real Madrid predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Courtois (GK) — Carvajal, Rudiger, Militao, Mendy — Valverde, Tchouameni, Bellingham — Rodrygo, Mbappe, Vinicius Junior.
Injured: Alaba, Camavinga
Suspended: N/A
Atalanta has been busy over the transfer window, with coach Gian Piero Gasperini making several signings to replace the players who left the club after the 2023/24 season.
The team however, continues to boast the services of striker Ademola Lookman, who scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final to beat Leverkusen, and he will once again lead the line here.
Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini are injured.
Atalanta XI (3-4-1-2, right to left): Musso (GK) — Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac — Zappacosta, De Roon, Ederson Ruggeri — Pasalic — De Ketelaere, Lookman.
Injured: Scamacca, Scalvini

Real Madrid vs. Atalanta prediction
- Prediction: Real Madrid 3-1 Atalanta BC
Atalanta, despite their impressive Europa League run, face a daunting task against a star-studded Real Madrid side.
Ancelotti's has a top-class attacking arsenal at his disposal. Star striker Kylian Mbappe, who left French club PSG this summer, will be raring to go in the Real Madrid jersey. While La Dea are no pushovers, the Spanish club's overall quality and experience should be enough to secure the UEFA Super Cup.
