Canada hope to avoid seeing their 2023 Women's World Cup journey derailed early, as they take on the Republic of Ireland in the second round of group stage matches on Wednesday.
Bev Priestman was unable to solve Canada's growing attacking worries in their opener, a scoreless draw with Nigeria, but they are still in a decent position to advance as one of the top two teams from Group B. This match, however, is a must-win for Canada, knowing that all teams are still within shouting distance of a knockout stage spot.
If Nigeria pick up a result against Australia in the other Group B match, it could put Canada in a dire position, and thus maximum points are of critical importance here, regardless of other matches.
The same can be said for Ireland, who fell 1-0 to Australia in their opener and need points here to keep their World Cup hopes alive. The Women's World Cup debutants were solid defensively throughout the match against the Matildas without Sam Kerr, but were undone by a penalty early in the second half and failed to threaten except for set pieces.

Canada vs Ireland lineups, team news
Already missing Janine Beckie (ACL) and Desiree Scott (knee), who did not make the final squad, Jessie Fleming surprisingly missed Canada's opener against Nigeria with a knock picked up in training. Fleming's absence as the team's designated penalty taker was notable as Christine Sinclair, the sport's all-time leading international goal scorer, failed to convert an opportunity from the spot.
However, Fleming replaces Sinclair from the start in this clash with Evelyne Viens coming in for Deanne Rose.
Canada starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Sheridan (GK) — Riviere, Buchanan, Gilles, Lawrence — Quinn, Grosso — Huitema, Fleming, Leon — Viens.

Ireland struggled to create quality chances in their opening round loss to Australia, but ever-present Katie McCabe was the best source of attacking quality, deployed at left wing-back then and likely here as well.
Kyra Carusa started up front in the attack, and the options behind her are limited as Ireland look to find an answer among their depleted forward options.
Vera Pauw opts for just one starting change as Lucy Quinn comes in for Marissa Sheva in attack
Ireland starting lineup (3-4-3): Brosnan (GK) — Fahey, Quinn, Connolly — Payne, O'Sullivan, Littlejohn, McCabe — Farrelly, Carusa, Quinn.
Canada vs Ireland betting odds
Despite their early misstep, Canada are significant favorites in this match, with Ireland also struggling to score goals. Les Rouges are expected to bounce back in this match, still a good shout to advance to the knockout stage despite a looming match against host Australia to close out group play.
Attacking struggles by both teams have the odds heavily skewed in favour of the 'under', with Ireland not expected to find the back of the net and Canada unlikely to hit the 'over' all on their own.
