Two of South America's most storied teams face off at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey as the second round of group games begin at Copa America 2024.
It's Argentina against Chile, as the defending World Cup and Copa champions take on the side who famously beat them in back-to-back finals in 2015 and 2016.
Argentina recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Canada to open the 2024 tournament in Atlanta, and after Chile drew 0-0 with neighbors Peru in their first fixture, the Albiceleste will be confident of getting one over on a side who they've not lost to since that 2016 final on penalties.
Not only did that final take place in the MetLife Stadium eight years ago, it also saw legendary figure and current Inter Miami star Lionel Messi announce his retirement from international football.
He's collected a World Cup and Copa America title since then after reversing that decision within weeks, but Chile will still be hoping to cause another upset of seismic proportions here.
Group A of the 2024 Copa America returns with what could be one of the best early matches of the competition so far, and The Sporting News has all the TV and streaming details you'll need to follow the action from wherever you are.

Argentina vs. Chile lineups & team news
Argentina escaped the opening match on a dodgy Atlanta pitch with no injury issues. Therefore, the only questions for head coach Lionel Scaloni heading into this match are tactical.
He has flipped between a 4-3-3 and a newly deployed 4-4-2, moving Nico Gonzalez around to either fit an extra midfielder or an extra forward up front. Giovani Lo Celso and Leandro Paredes are the midfielders at risk of seeing less time if not required, while Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez fight for places up front.
Lo Celso and Rodrigo de Paul were the Argentina players booked in the opener and therefore at risk of a yellow card suspension if they pick up a second.
Argentina projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Emiliano Martinez (GK) — Molina, Romero, Lisandro Martinez, Acuna — De Paul, Paredes, Mac Allister — Di Maria, Messi, Alvarez.
There are two injuries for Chile head coach Ricardo Gareca to work around. Winger Diego Valdes was withdrawn at halftime of the opener with a muscle injury and will reportedly miss this match, but could return for upcoming matches. Additionally, defender Igor Lichnovsky trained separately from the rest of the squad, but should be ready to suit up on matchday.
35-year-old Alexis Sanchez remains a starter for Chile, but largely only because they have nobody else to take his place at the No. 10. With talisman striker Eduardo Vargas also at 34 years old, young talent is desperately needed in the attack to usher in the next generation of Chilean football.
Opening match yellow cards for Sanchez, Victor Davila, and Erick Pulgar leave all three at risk of a suspension should they pick up another booking.
Chile projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Bravo (GK) — Isla, Lichnovsky, P. Diaz, Suazo — Pulgar, Echeverria — Davila, A. Sanchez, B. Brereton Diaz — C. Vargas.
Argentina vs Chile prediction
- Score prediction: Argentina 2-0 Chile
Chile have been Argentina's bogey team in Copa America encounters of late, triumphing in two of their last four games against the Albiceleste — both of which came in finals — before a 2-1 loss and 1-1 draw in the 2019 and 2021 tournaments respectively.
Argentina's form coming into this game, though, has been almost immaculate, recording six consecutive wins since a surprise 2-0 loss to an Uruguay side led by former Albiceleste manager Marcelo Bielsa. They'd also won 14 in a row before that, including the World Cup final no less, and will be hoping to build on their 2-0 win over Canada in the opener.
Therefore, with Chile having won just three of their last 10 matches and a drab 0-0 draw with Peru on the opening weekend, we think that although these two sides are known for playing out close encounters, Argentina should edge this one in fairly routine style.
