The USMNT will be looking to build on their record of having reached the knockout stage on each of their last two appearances at the World Cup finals as they face a Wales side returning to the biggest stage for the first time since 1958.

The USA failed to qualify in 2018, but they made the Round of 16 at both previous editions, only losing in extra time to Belgium in 2014 and Ghana in 2010.

With the likes of Premier League stars Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams set to feature, and Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Dan James among the Dragons' attacking options, the first match for both sides in Group B should be an entertaining one.

USA vs. Wales odds, prediction

USA's last seven games have produced mixed results, beating Morocco and Grenada but losing to Costa Rica and, on their current run of three matches without victory, suffering a 2-0 defeat against Japan in September.

The higher-ranked of the two teams by three places in 16th, they have drawn with Uruguay, Mexico, El Salvador and Saudi Arabia in 2022 and are marginally fancied with the bookmakers, who predict few goals in a game involving a Wales side who tend to be well-drilled.

Wales edged past Austria and Ukraine to reach Qatar, but they have struggled when they have stepped up in class, losing to Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland this year.
