Two teams in desperate search of form and consistency battle for valuable Premier League points as Chelsea travel 10 miles north to take on fellow London side Tottenham.

Spurs will be without manager Antonio Conte who remains sidelined as he recovers from gall bladder surgery, but remains involved in preparations, including on gameday. Assistant manager Cristian Stellini confirmed the two text during matches, which is permitted.

Tottenham picked up a victory against West Ham last time out to jump back into the top four, but they have recorded back-to-back league victories just once since October, a pattern which has seen Spurs alternating in and out of the Champions League zone. With a stretch of four straight league games coming up against relegation candidates, points here at home against Chelsea would set Spurs up well for a good run of results. Defeat would again leave them with a thinning margin for error in their quest to finish in the top four.

The situation for Chelsea, meanwhile, remains even more dire, managing to score just a single goal in their last four Premier League matches and on pace for a record low goalscoring tally this season. Manager Graham Potter simply has not found the right lineup to energise the Blues' attack, with Chelsea now stuck in the mid-table doldrums and fighting for their European lives.

Tottenham vs Chelsea odds

Tottenham are given the slight benefit of being at home, but there is little confidence in either competitor from the betting market, as both sit with plus odds and nearly level.

There is also confusion around the goalscoring abilities of these sides, as both teams are slight favourites to score, but the under 2.5 goals is also slightly favoured, meaning the oddsmakers are unsure how the game flow will play out.

Tottenham vs Chelsea team news

Spurs will be most notably missing manager Antonio Conte, who is unable to take charge of the match after gall bladder surgery. But on the player front, there are very few question marks among the squad. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris remains sidelined with a knee injury for at least the next month, with Fraser Forster holding down the fort between the sticks. Ryan Sessegnon is out at least a month with a hamstring injury, Yves Bissouma had ankle surgery that will see him out until April, and Rodrigo Bentancur's season is over due to a torn ACL.

Graham Potter will slowly have more options available to him as the Chelsea injury crisis begins to lessen slightly each week. N'Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic are back in individual training, and while this match comes too soon for them, they could be available for selection in the coming days or weeks depending on their return to full match fitness. Cesar Azpilicueta is out while recovering from the scary head injury he sustained against Southampton, discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. There is little news around Edouard Mendy's return from a broken finger, with Kepa Arrizabalaga continuing in goal, and Armando Broja is done for the year with a torn ACL.

Tottenham vs Chelsea key stats

  • Tottenham have failed to win in 29 of their last 33 matches against Chelsea across all competitions, dating back to December of 2010.
  • With a goal in this game, Harry Kane or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg can become the first Spurs player to score in both the home and away fixtures against Chelsea in a single season since Gary Lineker in 1990/91.
  • With 23 goals in 23 games this season, Chelsea are on pace to score just 38 goals this season. Their record lowest goals tally in a Premier League season is 46 back in 1995/96, while their all-time top flight record low is 31 goals in 43 games way back in 1923/24.
  • Chelsea have gone an entire Premier League season without a double-digit league goalscorer just three times ever and once since the year 2000 — in 2020/21 when Jorginho led the team with seven goals. Mason Mount currently leads the team in Premier League goalscoring this season with five.

Tottenham vs Chelsea prediction

  • Moneyline lean: Tottenham (+145)
  • Against the spread lean (handicap): Tottenham -0.5 (+130)
  • Score prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea

While it's hard to trust either team right now, taking the home favorite here with plus odds is the way to go. Spurs have generally been 'better' over the last few weeks, while Chelsea are floundering up front against anyone and everyone.

The Blues might be able to score against Tottenham's chaotic defensive setup, but there still may not be many openings, as the hosts have been better at the back of late.

Since the back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Man City back in mid-January, Spurs have held each of their four league opponents to under 1.5 xG, and that includes Leicester City who managed to score four fluky goals on just 1.4 xG. Spurs also held Man City to just 0.77 xG in a 1-0 win.

It's hard to see how Graham Potter drags Chelsea out of the fire in this road match, given how much the Blues have struggled away from Stamford Bridge this season, even if this game is being played 10 short miles away.

Tottenham vs Chelsea: Best bet

  • Pick: Tottenham to win 2H & score over 0.5 goals
  • Odds: +170 (BetMGM)

Given we're predicting a Tottenham win here, it's likely to come after the break. Why? Consider the following.

Tottenham have scored 66 percent of their goals this season after halftime, the highest number in the league. They have scored eight goals from minutes 46-60, 13 goals from minutes 61-75, and eight goals from minutes 76-90. All three of those values (8,13, 8) are higher than any of the 15-minute intervals in the first half. True to form, last time out Spurs scored two second-half goals in their 2-0 win over West Ham.

On the other side of things, Chelsea have a relatively even split before and after halftime conceding goals, but get this: Chelsea have conceded nine goals from minutes 61-75, their highest 15-minute interval and one off the most in the league for that stretch. As mentioned before, that 15-minute interval just so happens to be Tottenham's most prolific period in a game.

Tottenham vs Chelsea prop bet

  • Pick: Tottenham over 2.5 bookings
  • Odds: +140 (FanDuel)

There's a few reasons why this match shapes up for Tottenham to get a bit feisty. Spurs have often been energised by their home fans, to a fault. Their 48 yellow cards this season puts them eighth in the Premier League in total bookings, but 27 of those have come at home, second-most in the league.

While referee Stuart Atwell is middle of the pack among Premier League referees in bookings, which doesn't tell us much, there's an interesting wrinkle to that. Atwell has officiated Chelsea matches three times this season, and while he's only booked Chelsea players four times (one of them red), he has booked Chelsea's three opponents a combined eight times (four for Man United, four for Fulham, none for Leeds). In the matchup against Leeds, it's a miracle no cards were shown despite whistling Leeds players 16 times for fouls.

Finally, the Spurs centre-backs have been somewhat liberal with their fouling of late. The combination of Cristian Romero, Clement Lenglet, and Eric Dier have been shown nine yellow cards in seven matches since the start of the new year, and the Blues could test that shaken resolve.
