Inter look to further lock in their UEFA Champions League status for next season as they travel to relegation-threatened Spezia in a Serie A showdown on Friday.

The Milan club are second in the table, but as they are 15 points adrift from runaway leaders Napoli, there's little hope of a title chase. Instead, they are hoping to maintain their slim lead atop the remaining Champions League places, sitting just three points clear of fifth-placed AC Milan in the jam-packed battle for a top-four place.

Defeat in their last road match at Bologna was a damper on that goal, as they were blanked on 13 shots, of which they managed to put just four on frame. Lautaro Martinez, however, is in good form, with five goals in his last six league matches, leading the Inter line after a poor World Cup showing.

Spezia, meanwhile, are in a scrap at the bottom of the table, sitting 17th and just above the drop zone by three points over 18th-placed Hellas Verona. They've managed to pick up three points in their last four matches, all via draws, but haven't been victorious once in 2023.

    Spezia vs Inter: best bet

    • Pick: Half with most goals — 1H
    • Odds: +200 (BetMGM)

Both these teams are significantly better than average in the first half on expected goals this season, especially Spezia who have been decent going forward for a relegation candidate. Spezia have put together over 15 xG this season before the break, and only 10 after, which is a massive skew in a game that usually features more goals after halftime.

While Inter put up two of their three goals in the second half in the reverse fixture back in August, that was a poor representation of the game flow. The Milan club pummeled Spezia to the tune of 13 shots before halftime, while their two second-half strikes came on just six efforts on goal. Expect this one to be wrapped up early.
