These two opponents are set to become very familiar with one another over the next six months, but the most important meeting is now as Spain and Sweden match up in the 2023 Women's World Cup semifinals.

Drawn into the same UEFA Nations League group and scheduled to play two more times before the calendar year comes to a close, they'll not be looking past this enormous match as both teams look to earn their first Women's World Cup title.

Spain have already achieved their best-ever Women's World Cup finish but will be seeking more as one of the top teams in the world and boasting one of the most talented squads. Sweden have finished on the podium four times previously, reaching the 2003 Women's World Cup final but falling to Germany.

Both teams managed to grind out results through this tournament, proving they are each capable of conjuring late magic. Sweden eliminated the tournament favourites USA in the Round of 16 on penalties, while Spain needed a 111t- minute winner to down the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Spain vs Sweden prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Sweden (+250)
  • Score prediction: Spain 0-1 Sweden

Spain are supremely talented, but the odds make it clear that Sweden won't go down without a real fight, and in truth, they have that feeling of destiny this tournament.

The Blagult have stood firm with every punch thrown their way in all aspects of the game. They can match anyone's physicality, skill, and pace, and when their outfield players falter, their goalkeeper picks up the slack. They can absorb waves of pressure and maintain possession on the ball.

Spain will have their work cut out for them, and it's just too difficult to back the favourites outright in this match.

    Spain vs Sweden: best bet

    • Pick: Under 9.5 total corners
    • Odds: -120 (BetMGM)

The under doesn't provide much value here, but there are other ways to play a stagnant game flow.

Spain are a very vertical team and pour on corners, but Sweden defensively do not allow teams to get to the touchline in the manner La Roja will hope. Sweden have not conceded more than five corners in regulation against any opponent in this entire Women's World Cup, including against the U.S. when they conceded nine total but four of those came in extra time.

Peter Gerhardsson's team themselves don't add much to this total, and while 9.5 is an annoyingly low threshold given how Spain rack up set-piece opportunities, it's still palatable here in a game that should be decided more from open play than dead-ball chances.

    Spain vs Sweden prop bet

    • Pick: Half with most goals — Equal
    • Odds: +200 (BetMGM)

This is a weird play, and one that can often come thanks more to randomness than anything else, but there's reason to play this option here.

First, you're set in the event of a goalless draw, which is entirely possible given both teams' defensive prowess. Second, neither of these sides panic if they go behind early and won't be tempted to produce an immediate response if they fall victim to a first-half opening. Both teams have shown a proficiency to score both early and late, and it's hit on two of these teams' four knockout games, so there's a good opening here.
