Who can stop Manchester City? That's once again the narrative in the 2023/24 Premier League season as the Citizens look to make more history.

Pep Guardiola has engineered five titles in the last six seasons, and after adding Champions League and FA Cup titles last season in a famous treble as well, the mission to avoid a letdown is on for 2023/24.

Man City were challenged thoroughly by Arsenal at the top of the table in the prior campaign, but ultimately the giants prevailed and the Gunners were forced to bring in reinforcements for another assault at the title. This year, the London club will put forth its best attempt to validate last year's second-place finish, as they go for their first top-flight title in two decades.

Meanwhile, further down the table, battles for European places will be fierce, as will the scrap to avoid relegation. It's an exciting year ahead, with so many storylines to follow.

Expert prediction for 2023/24 Premier League title

  • PICK: Man City (-150 on BetMGM)
  • Best value: Arsenal (+450 on BetMGM)
  • Stay away from: Liverpool (+800 on BetMGM)

Betting against Manchester City is not exactly advisable based on recent evidence. In fact, it's just flat-out foolish.

Winners of five of the last six league titles, and coming off a rare European treble, this team sits on the throne until someone forcibly removes them. They lost Ilkay Gundogan this offseason, but replaced him with Mateo Kovacic, who, while maybe not as much of an impact player, can still do the job in midfield very effectively.

Arsenal looked up for the challenge last season, and while they have a new midfield, there's still a very solid chance they can fight alongside City.

Liverpool are rejuvenated, and will certainly push for a top four spot after a down year, but the holes in last year's midfield aren't just immediately solved, and it will take time for the new players to mesh. This is a project. Liverpool aren't going anywhere, but they won't be title contenders.

Who will finish Top 4 in Premier League?

  • PICKS: Man City (-150), Arsenal (-240), Liverpool (-180), Newcastle (+145)
  • Best value: Newcastle (+145 on FanDuel)
  • Stay away from: Chelsea (+125 on FanDuel)

This Newcastle team is for real, and they're here to stay. Bruno Guimaraes is an underrated force in midfield, Miguel Almiron is a fan favourite, and Alexander Isak made an instant impact after getting through his injury in January. The defense is a cohesive unit, and the depth is a major positive.

Chelsea, on the other hand, remain a disorganized mess. They had another busy transfer window, and while major changes were needed, at some point the Blues have to settle on some kind of consistency. They will do better than 12th, and should be good enough to find a way back to European competition, but there's been too much change at Stamford Bridge to see them challenge for a top four spot.

Who will be relegated in Premier League 2023/24?

  • PICK: Luton Town (-270 on FanDuel), Everton (+280), Wolves (+220)
  • Best value: Everton (+280 on FanDuel)
  • Stay away from: Nottingham Forest (+230 on FanDuel)

Last season, all three newly promoted clubs achieved Premier League safety, while three established clubs went down. This season that probably won't happen again, as Luton Town look a surefire bet to suffer an immediate return to the Championship, but don't count all three promoted clubs out.

Instead, look for Premier League sides that appear to be spiraling out of control, because there are a few. Namely, Everton and Wolves, who are in real trouble yet again. The Toffees have flirted with relegation two years in a row, and have done absolutely nothing to rectify the roster because of their dire financial situation. There's no way they avoid catastrophe this time around, unless something is done soon.

Wolves are another club that look poised to go down. The club's attack never recovered after Raul Jimenez's head injury, and now he's no longer with the team. Still, Ruben Neves was the glue holding this discombobulated team together, but he left for Saudi Arabia. It's all coming apart for Wolves.

Fulham could be in trouble, too, after a season when everything went their way, and regression is likely, but there are too many bad teams to see them sink down to the bottom three trap doors to the second-tier Championship.

Premier League top scorer prediction for 2023/24

  • PICK: Erling Haaland (-175 on BetMGM)
  • Best value: Alexander Isak (+3300 on BetMGM)
  • Stay away from: Mohamed Salah (+700 on BetMGM)

Like the title race, don't overthink this one. Erling Haaland smashed goalscoring records last year, and he is poised to repeat that performance here. Nothing short of an injury should keep him from securing the Golden Boot so long as this Man City team keeps churning out results.

A bet on anyone else is a bet on Haaland getting hurt. To that end, if City suffer such a blow, Alexander Isak would be a great play. The Newcastle frontman has a great cast of players in support, and 10 goals in 22 games last year shows his abilities, even with the dangerous Callum Wilson also bagging goals.

Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, certainly has a chance to top the charts as well, but at his odds, it's simply not worth the play given Haaland's presence. Last season's 19-goal haul was impressive, and he still finished miles behind Haaland. If you're not betting on Haaland, might as well go for glory on Isak's odds because anything can happen at that point.
