In the Euro 2024 Group D match-up, Poland will face the Netherlands at Volksparkstadion on June 16.

Poland head into the game with high spirits. They are undefeated in their past eight matches, winning six of them. Recent victories against Ukraine (3-1) and Turkey (2-1) have boosted their confidence. However, they have injury woes with Matty Cash, Robert Lewandowski, and Arkadiusz Milik out.

The Netherlands, led by Ronald Koeman, are in great form. They have won eight out of their past 10 matches, keeping clean sheets in seven. Their recent friendlies saw them thrash Canada and Iceland, both 4-0, even without key players Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners.

Historically, the Netherlands have the edge, scoring at least two goals in six of their previous 10 matches. Poland have conceded an average of 1.75 goals in their last four games against the Dutch.

In the FIFA rankings, the Netherlands are seventh, while Poland are 28th. Will Poland surprise, or will the Dutch delight? Tune in to find out!

Poland vs. Netherlands lineups & team news

Poland will be without their top scorer Robert Lewandowski and Juventus striker Arkadiusz Milik due to injuries. Coach Probierz will need to get creative with his attack. Karol Swiderski, despite an ankle problem, might play as a false nine. Alternatively, Krzysztof Piatek or Adam Buksa could lead the line.

In goal, experienced Wojciech Szczesny, with 82 caps, will start. Piotr Zielinski, another Italy-based player, will control the midfield.

Poland projected starting lineup (3-5-1-1):  Szczesny (GK) — Bednarek, Dawidowicz, Kiwior — Frankowski, Slisz, Piotrowski, Moder, Zalewski — Zielinski — Buksa.

Netherlands also have injury concerns. Frenkie de Jong, Marten de Roon, and Teun Koopmeiners are out of the tournament. Full-back Ian Maatsen was called up as cover, but Nathan Ake or Micky van de Ven are expected to start on the left side of defense.

Memphis Depay will likely play as the central striker, with Wout Weghorst also an option, but Bryan Brobbey is set to miss out on the opener due to a hamstring injury. Denzel Dumfries, who provided five assists in qualifying, is likely to feature on the right, facing competition from Jeremie Frimpong.

Netherlands projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen (GK) — Dumfries, Van Dijk, Ake, Van de Ven — Schouten, Veerman — Simons, Reijnders, Gakpo — Depay.

Poland vs. Netherlands prediction

  • Score prediction: Poland 0-2 Netherlands

The Netherlands are favored to win their Euro 2024 opener against Poland, and for good reason. The Dutch have clinched six wins in their most recent 10 matches, showcasing exceptional form and consistency. In contrast, Poland managed three draws and three victories in their past six games.

With Poland missing star striker Lewandowski, they might struggle in both attack and defending set-pieces. Many pundits believe the Netherlands could aim for the semifinals and they should be able to secure a comfortable victory against The Eagles.
