Nottingham Forest Premier League fixtures: Full schedule, dates, times, predictions for the 2022/23 EPL season image

When Nottingham Forest were bottom of the 2021/22 Championship table in September and four points away from safety, the prospect of a long-awaited return to the Premier League looked almost as distant as it had during their spell in the third tier from 2005 to 2008.

Almost a year later, the two-time champions of Europe are still savouring the sensational run of form that almost took them to automatic promotion, making it little surprise when they subsequently completed their mission via the Championship playoffs.

The appointment of former England youth coach Steve Cooper has proved a masterstroke, and it would be another superb achievement if the Welshman can steer Forest to safety at the end of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Which new stadiums will Forest fans be heading to? Can Cooper repeat the impressive 2021/22 FA Cup run he oversaw? Here's how the season looks:

Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup

A reminder of their 2021/22 FA Cup run, in which they ousted Arsenal and thrashed Leicester City before losing by the only goal of the game to Liverpool in the quarterfinals, should give Forest confidence that they can beat Premier League sides. They return to the competition in January.

Forest fared dreadfully in the Carabao Cup, losing 4-0 at home to Midlands neighbours Wolves during their dire start to the season. It's unlikely to be anywhere near a priority for them, but that competition starts again for Forest in November.

Nottingham Forest Premier League betting odds

Forest supporters will be all too aware of how difficult promoted sides often find staying in the Premier League during their first season, not least for the playoff winners, who have less time to prepare for potentially key post-season signings than any of their rivals.

That remarkable run to the Championship top six, though — including 12 wins and one defeat in 15 league games between February and April — should give Forest momentum. The likes of Brennan Johnson, who scored 19 goals and provided 11 assists on his way to being named the 2021/22 Championship Young Player of the Season, will be targeting more than survival.

Nottingham Forest best & worst Premier League finish

Forest are one of the largest English clubs not to have been in the Premier League this century, with the first of their three relegations from the division under legendary manager Brian Clough, when they came 22nd in 1992/93, representing their worst finish.

They returned a year later and established a reputation as entertainers, achieving their best-ever finish of third in their first season back, followed by ninth the following year.

Twentieth-placed finishes in 1996/97 and 1998/99 yielded a total of 13 victories across the two seasons. Cooper will want no repeat of those miseries in his first experience as a Premier League manager.
