With their title challenge mostly in tatters, Manchester United will look to take a firmer hold of a Champions League position as they take on challengers Newcastle at St. James Park.

United are 19 points back of leaders Arsenal, just too large a gap to make up with 12 games remaining. They do, however, have Tottenham (one point back) and Newcastle (three points back) breathing down their necks for the final two Champions League places, needing to secure their place amongst the top four.

The Magpies can actually jump United in the table with a win, drawing level on points and taking advantage of a superior goal differential.

Both sides could be without key attacking players. United are sweating the status of talisman Marcus Rashford, who is a doubt, while Newcastle will definitely be missing top goalscorer Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle vs Man United prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Man United (+185)
  • Against the spread lean: Man United +0.5 (-190)
  • Score prediction: Newcastle 0-1 Man United

This match is a bit hard to predict without knowing if Marcus Rashford will play or not, as he's such a huge part of what Manchester United do. Still, without Casemiro, their makeup looks very different.

Following a grueling international break, with the teams only just back, this could be a low-scoring affair. It's easy to see either team winning 1-0, so with the draw not holding much value, we'll lean instead towards the slightly better team on paper, even if they're on the road. Picking a winner here probably isn't the way to go, as there's too much variance as to what can happen.

Newcastle vs Man United best bet

    • Pick: Both teams to score — NO
    • Odds: +110 (BetMGM)

Possibly no Marcus Rashford, possibly no Allan Saint-Maximin, definitely no Miguel Almiron, and Nick Pope back to marshal the best defensive side in the Premier League at home? Say no more. While the under also has plenty of value at -110, the only result that could ruin this bet but not the under is a 1-1 draw, which has only been done once in the last 22 meetings across the last 11 years.

Newcastle have conceded the fewest goals in the English top flight this season, and United have been better of late at the back. They've kept three clean sheets in their last four games, and while they have given up 14.57 xG in 10 league matches since the start of 2023, that includes a 3.44 mark in the 7-0 drubbing against Liverpool.

Newcastle vs Man United prop bet

    • Pick: Scott McTominay 1+ shot on target
    • Odds: +270 (FanDuel)

The Scottish midfielder had an outlandish international break, scoring four goals across the two games, including a brace against Spain to spring one of the more notable results of the last week.

McTominay could start with Casemiro suspended, and you better believe he'll be feeling it. If this match is low-scoring as we expect, Manchester United could get frustrated in the attacking third, leading to guys having a go from midfield. All that put together, we can easily see McTominay putting one on frame, especially given these odds.

As always, wait until starting lineups are revealed to place these kind of wagers, in the event Erik ten Hag prefers Fred in midfield, or chooses some other tactical construction.
