Manchester United team news: Injuries, predicted lineup, debuts, Cristiano Ronaldo latest and more vs. Brighton image

Erik ten Hag begins his competitive tenure as Manchester United boss with a Premier League debut at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7.

Ten Hag gets his first taste of English football as United welcome the Seagulls to Old Trafford in what could be a tricky first test for the Dutch coach.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future has dominated the agenda in recent weeks with the Portugal international only managing 45 minutes of preseason action.

United wrapped up their warm-up for 2022/23 in unspectacular style, with a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Oslo followed by 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano on their return to Manchester.

Will Ronaldo be involved for Ten Hag's first Premier League fixture? Here is how United are expected to line up.

Predicted Man United lineup: Red Devils starting XI against Brighton

Here's how Man United's XI could look, in a 4-2-3-1 formation: De Gea (GK) — Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Malacia — McTominay, Fred — Sancho, Fernandes, Elanga — Rashford

Which new Man United signings could start against Brighton?

Ten Hag has spent around £65m ($79m) in the summer transfer window to bolster his new squad ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Argentina international Lisandro Martinez is the big-money arrival at Old Trafford, after finally completing a £48m ($58.5m) to follow Ten Hag from Ajax.

Ten Hag also raided the Eredivisie for Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, with Denmark international Christian Eriksen arriving on a free transfer following his departure from Brentford.

Malacia still looks to be a work in progress, but with Alex Telles joining Sevilla on loan and Luke Shaw short of fitness, he could well get his first Premier League start against Brighton. Martinez may have to wait after only starting one game in preseason.

Eriksen's flashes of preseason quality could see him start in a restructured midfield, with the former Spurs schemer tipped for a deeper role to accommodate Bruno Fernandes as a No.10, although it seems more likely the more familiar duo of Scott McTominay and Fred will line up from the start.

Man United injury news for Fulham trip

Ten Hag will make a late check on England duo Shaw and Jadon Sancho, who has been ill.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo may be included in the squad after playing the first half against Rayo, but the veteran striker is short on match fitness as uncertainty builds around his future at United.

With Ronaldo's status unclear, the timing of an injury to Anthony Martial could hardly have come at a worse moment. The Athletic reported on Thursday that Martial has a hamstring problem and will be unavailable for the Brighton match, meaning Marcus Rashford will likely have to lead the attack.

Brandon Williams is a doubt due to an ankle knock, and Mason Greenwood remains unavailable for selection.

What was the score between Man United and Brighton last season?

United beat Brighton 2-0 at home last season in Premier League action with goals from Ronaldo and Fernandes.

However, they were comfortably beaten 4-0 by Graham Potter's side at the AMEX Stadium in their penultimate game of 2021/22. That was just the third win for Brighton in 10 Premier League meetings with the Red Devils.
