Liverpool will aim to extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League to five points when they travel to Bournemouth on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s squad enjoyed their winter break weekend as champions Manchester City beat Newcastle United 3-2 in dramatic circumstances to trim the deficit to two points.

The break was judiciously timed as a number of Klopp’s players who are nursing injuries enjoyed some recovery time, although Mohamed Salah limping out of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations game against Ghana on Thursday was a worrying sight for all at Anfield.

“I spoke with Mo last night. He felt it," Klopp said at his pre-match news conference on Friday. “We all know how rarely Mo goes off so it’s definitely something. It depends what the diagnosis is."

Due to being on international duty, Salah wouldn’t have featured at the Vitality Stadium in any case. That’s a problem for a little further down the line.

For the time being, here’s the team news that will affect the outcome on England’s south coast.

"I'm so happy for Dom because when we signed him we were all so excited about the talent he had," Klopp said. "He had so much potential but it's Liverpool and we had other good strikers as well.

"He was probably not the most clinical yet, but the talent was obvious. It was the right decision to go to Bournemouth, last season he scored enough goals, but this season he is up there with the greatest. He's a really talented kid, I'm very happy for him."
