Leicester City begin their bid to reach the final of a major European tournament for the first time in their history on Thursday when they play host to Roma in the first leg of their Europa Conference League semifinal.

The FA Cup holders had never been beyond the quarterfinals of a European competition before this season. But their 2-1 aggregate win over PSV Eindhoven in the previous round has left them just 180 minutes away from reaching the May 25 final in Tirana.

But standing in their way are a Roma side managed by Jose Mourinho, who also has the chance to create some history for his current employers.

Roma's lone European success is the 1961 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (the precursor to the UEFA Cup and Europa League). They did reach the European Cup final in 1984 and the UEFA Cup final in 1991, but lost on both occasions.

Leicester City vs. Roma predicted lineups

Jamie Vardy Leicester City 2017

Leicester's hopes of beating their Serie A opponents have been boosted by the return to fitness of striker Jamie Vardy, who had only played 79 minutes of football this year before coming on as a substitute for the final 19 minutes of Saturday's goalless draw with Aston Villa.

He is likely to come off the bench again on Thursday due to a lack of match fitness.

With Leicester 10th in the Premier League table, and in no danger of relegation or even qualifying automatically for a European spot, all focus will be on this series.

Leicester City predicted lineup (4-3-3): Schmeichel (GK) — Pereira, Fofana, Evans, Castagne — Maddison, Tielemans, Dewsbury-Hall — Albrighton, Iheanacho, Barnes

Like Leicester, a mediocre domestic campaign means Roma will give this match their full focus, with the fifth-placed side unable to realistically finish among the top four in Serie A. They lie eight points behind Juventus with only four games left.

Mourinho is out to win European silverware with a fourth club, having won the UEFA Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, while the Europa League was claimed with Manchester United in 2017.

Roma predicted lineup (4-4-2): Patricio (GK) — Karsdorp, Ibanez, Smalling, Mancini — Pellegrini, Zaniolo, Cristante, Mkhitaryan — Abraham, Zalewski

Leicester City vs Roma betting odds

Leicester's success in the previous round against PSV came on the back of keeping it tight in the first leg, playing out a goalless draw on home turf.

Indeed, Leicester have only conceded one goal at the King Power Stadium in the knockout stages so far, but that will be tested by a Roma side that has scored 30 goals in total in the competition so far, with Tammy Abraham bagging eight of them.
