Kylian Mbappé is set to join Real Madrid this summer, according to multiple reports.
The 25-year-old French star is rebuffing a proposed pay raise from Paris Saint-Germain to leave the club as a free agent, ESPN reported Saturday. Le Parisien first reported the news of his decision to leave PSG.
After starting his career with AS Monaco, Mbappé joined PSG on loan in 2017. He has played with the club since then, winning five Ligue 1 titles and three Coupes de France.
Mbappé is expected to announce his decision to join Real Madrid next week, per ESPN. With the move, he would be turning down a proposed pay raise from PSG, according to the same report. He also would be opting out of bonuses worth close to $108 million.
The captain of the France men's national team, Mbappé wants to play for his country in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. That desire will be key as he negotiates a deal, ESPN reported.
While Mbappé seems set to join the Spanish club, the deal is not done. And he has reversed course in the past, as when he considered a move to Bernabéu in 2022 before sticking with PSG.
