Indian football team clinched a historic SAFF Championship title by beating Kuwait 5-4 in the penalty shootout in the final on Tuesday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
After 120 minutes of intense battle which saw both teams scored a goal each, India emerged victorious in the tie-breaker thanks to Gurpreet Singh Sandhu's heroics in the sudden death.

This was India's record ninth and second consecutive SAFF Championship title win.
The Blues Tigers remained unbeaten in the tournament. They began their campaign with a thumping 4-0 win over rivals Pakistan followed by a comfortable 2-0 win over Nepal. In their final group, Kuwait scored a late equaliser to hold the hosts to a 1-1 draw.
In the semi-final, India managed to play out a goalless draw against Lebanon and then beat them 4-2 in the tie-breaker before getting the better of Kuwait in the final.
