Germany take on Hungary in their second Group A game at Euro 2024, following an opening win in the tournament, as they thrashed Scotland 5-1 in Munich.

Julian Nagelsmann's team overpowered the Scots at the Allianz Arena to spell out their status as one of the tournament favourites in the coming weeks.

Hungary slipped to 3-1 defeat against rivals Switzerland in their opening game with Marco Rossi's team now facing a battle to secure a place in the Round of 16 knockouts.

However, with third place still potentially enough to secure a place in knockout rounds, Hungary will be full of confidence, but a win will see Germany progress with a game to spare.

Germany vs. Hungary lineups & team news

With Germany on course for Round of 16 knockout qualification, Nagelsmann is not expected to tinker too much with his starting lineup.

Niclas Fullkrug impressed off the bench in the win over Scotland, but Kai Havertz is set to continue as the spearhead of Germany's attack.

Germany projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) — Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Mittelstadt — Andrich, Kroos — Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz — Havertz.

Hungary are set to stick with a largely unchanged team from the Switzerland loss, although Bendeguz Bolla could come in at right wing-back for Attila Fiola.

Le Havre defender Loic Nego, and Parma's Botond Balogh, are still struggling with pre-tournament injuries, and will not be ready to face Germany.

Hungary projected starting lineup (3-4-2-1): Gulacsi — Lang, Orban, Szalai — Fiola, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez — Sallai, Szoboszlai — Varga.

Germany vs. Hungary prediction, odds

  • Score prediction: Germany 3-1 Hungary
  • Odds: Germany win = 1.26, Draw = 5.90, Hungary win = 11.00

Hungary will be desperate to pick up a positive result after losing their opening game, but Germany's strength, powered by the home support, should make for a tough task.

The hosts started the Scotland game with authority and a repeat performance should let them take early control of this game, much as Switzerland did against Hungary on matchday one.

There's a good chance Hungary could get a goal, as they chase valuable points, but this could leave them open to the killer pace of Germany's attack.
