France are looking for a bounce-back after opening their 2023 Women's World Cup with a disappointing result, but the next test is even tougher as they meet Brazil in the second round of Group F action.

Les Bleus slumped to a scoreless draw against Jamaica, a CONCACAF side that has struggled defensively of late, leaving them behind schedule as the favourites in their group. Now, they must contend with world No. 8 Brazil, knowing anything less than three points here could spell doom earlier than expected.

Brazil, meanwhile, lead the group standings after pummeling Panama 4-0 in their opener. Racing Louisville winger Ary Borges scored a hat-trick, with maybe the single most impressive individual performance of the tournament so far.

These teams have met 11 times previously, with Brazil yet to win a single game, losing six and drawing five. The European side have won four straight between these two teams, but each of the past three has come by a single-goal margin, including one in the 2019 Women's World Cup Round of 16 after extra-time.

France vs Brazil prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (+220)
  • Score prediction: France 1-1 Brazil

The odds are such that both teams are as evenly matched as possible, almost perfectly level on the moneyline. Both sides are ranked amongst the top 10 in the world by FIFA, and while France have the edge as the No. 5 team as opposed to Brazil's No. 8 ranking, it's the South Americans who started the tournament hotter with a 4-0 victory over Panama.

The betting market does, however, largely agree that goals will be at a premium in this match — despite Brazil's goal-fest a few days ago — given the defensive strength of both sides.

With very little to separate these sides, the value is in the draw, which offers a better return than picking one side or the other in a match where an argument could easily be made for each.

    France vs Brazil: best bet

    • Pick: Kerolin anytime goal scorer
    • Odds: +600 (BetMGM)

    • Pick: Kerolin anytime assist
    • Odds: 11/4 (SkyBet)

For the life of me, I can't figure out why FanDuel doesn't offer Kerolin as an option under their "to score or assist a goal" category (they didn't in their opener, either), so we've built our own here, which works out to about a +186 payout for one unit spread across the two picks.

Ary Borges got the spotlight in their opener for her hat-trick, and rightly so, but Kerolin was as active as anyone in the attacking third, and unlucky not to profit. The NC Courage playmaker has been one of the best creative forces in the NWSL over the past year and, with eight goals in 13 matches this season, she is a threat in front of net, but she can bring teammates into the attacking third as well.

A dribble queen, Kerolin shredded Panama in their opener and is likely to be involved heavily in this important match as well.

    France vs Brazil prop bet

    • Pick: France under 0.5 goals
    • Odds: +175 (BetMGM)

While we do think France will find a goal, there are worrying signs that give this selection some real value at almost 2/1 odds.

From an attacking standpoint, top teams at this Women's World Cup have largely disappointed, other than Spain. France are no different, missing Marie-Antoinette Katoto and subsequently held off the scoresheet by Jamaica in their opener despite 14 shots, including five on target. Les Bleues couldn't get past Jamaican defenders one-on-one, successful with just six of 15 take-ons. That's a bad sign, considering Jamaica couldn't defend a cold much of the past year.

Brazil, meanwhile, do well to keep a lid on top teams. They were overwhelmed by the United States in February but still conceded just twice. Since, they've conceded one goal to England on 11 shots, one goal to Germany on six shots, and shut out Chile and Panama. They can do a job here.

    France vs Brazil flier bet

    • Pick: Ary Borges anytime goalscorer
    • Odds: +400 (BetMGM)

She scored a hat-trick in the opener, displaying finishing abilities out of this world, and was generally a menace in the attacking third... and she has 4/1 odds to score again??

No more explanation needed. This presents outlandish value.
