Manchester United ended their six-year wait for a trophy at the start of 2023 as Erik ten Hag steered them to a Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United.
The Red Devils suffered defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend as Ten Hag missed out on a domestic cup double — and the chance to deny City from emulating United's treble triumph of 1999 — but that did not completely spoil what has been a good 2022/23 on the red side of Manchester.
Ten Hag's first campaign at the club has been met with a wave of fan positivity, with a cup win followed up by a top-four Premier League finish and the promise of Champions League football next season.
The Dutchman will be looking to continue that progress in the next 12 months and add to his personal haul of trophies won as a manager.

Bayern Munich II
After leading Go Ahead Eagles to promotion to the Dutch top flight in his sole campaign at the club in 2012/13, Ten Hag was approached to take charge of the Bayern Munich reserve team in June 2013, with Pep Guardiola now the head coach of the senior side.
During his two seasons in Bavaria, Ten Hag won the Regionalliga Bayern (fourth tier) in 2015, before moving on to a new role back in the Netherlands at Utrecht. While he did not deliver any silverware, his progress at Utrecht, with fifth- and fourth-place finishes in the Eredivisie, caught the attention of the biggest club in the Netherlands.
Ajax
After sacking Marcel Keizer midway through the 2017/18 season, Ajax prioritised Ten Hag as his replacement in Amsterdam and appointed him in December 2017.
In four full seasons at Ajax, Ten Hag won an impressive three Eredivisie titles at the Johan Cruyff Arena, alongside two KNVB Cups. He led the club to the 2019 Champions League semifinals, where they lost out to Tottenham.
Manchester United
Ten Hag has been credited with a culture change at United this season and delivered the Carabao Cup in February 2023, ending the Red Devils' six-year wait for a trophy.

Erik ten Hag first season at Man United
United reached two domestic cup finals in Ten Hag's first season, beating Newcastle in one, and losing to Man City in the other.
The Dutch boss stated his determination to ensure United secured a Champions League place for next season, and despite a dip in late-season form, they achieved their goal by finishing third in the Premier League.
Positives surrounding Ten Hag's start in Manchester have focused on the impressive revival of Marcus Rashford, and the superb signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, alongside his forceful handling of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure at the end of 2022.
However, he will be frustrated to finish the Premier League campaign nine points behind second-place Arsenal, and 14 behind champions City.
After securing Europa League wins over Barcelona and Real Betis, United capitulated against Sevilla in the semifinals, leaving Ten Hag irritated at a European chance missed. His side also suffered some humiliating domestic defeats, losing 4-0 at Brentford, 6-3 to Man City, and 7-0 against Liverpool at Anfield.
