A fixture fitting of the 2022 World Cup final itself, England and France will face off in the quarterfinals on Saturday, December 10.

Les Bleus arrived in Qatar as defending champions and despite a raft of injuries, have peformed strongly with Kylian Mbappe scoring freely.

England, meanwhile, still have the memory of their Euro 2020 final defeat fresh in mind and look determined to crack their silverware drought.

Like France, the Three Lions have impressed in attack so far at this World Cup and this quarterfinal could come down to a battle of two star-studded frontlines.

England vs France lineups

Many are expecting Gareth Southgate to deploy a a 5-2-3 formation in this match to try and stop France's attack.

As such, Declan Rice is the most likely to drop out with Kieran Trippier brought in at the back.

Up front, Southgate may opt to stick with his front three that got the job done against Senegal with Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish left on the bench as a result.

The England FA have confirmed Raheem Sterling will be available for this match, after the Chelsea forward returned to Qatar on December 9, following a trip back to the UK after a break in at his family home.

England projected lineup (5-2-3): 1. Pickford (GK) — 12. Trippier, 2. Walker, 5. Stones, 6. Maguire, 3. Shaw — 8. Henderson, 22. Bellingham — 17. Saka, 9. Kane, 20. Foden

Didier Deschamps seemed to have found his favoured XI after their dominant 3-1 win over Poland last time out.

Jules Kounde started at right-back with Aurelien Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot holding the midfield. It's hard to see him making any changes for this clash, especially after a solid break between matches.

France projected lineup (4-2-3-1): 1. Lloris (GK) — 5. Kounde, 4. Varane, 18. Upamecano, 22. T. Hernandez  — 8. Tchouameni, 14. Rabiot — 11. Dembele, 7. Griezmann, 10. Mbappe — 9. Giroud

England vs France odds, prediction

While the bookies seem to be favouring France as defending champions, England loom as good value considering their good form in Qatar so far.

Though the result is hard to predict, goals seem likely to come at either end and this may be where the safest bets can be made.

Mbappe looms as the wildcard in this game and if he continues to play as well as he has been, France should progress to the semifinals at England's expense.
