England will face Spain in the final of Euro 2024 as they push to end a 58-year wait for a major trophy in men's senior international football.
Gareth Southgate's team have dug deep to secure a second successive UEFA European Championship final appearance after edging out a 2-1 semifinal win over the Netherlands, with their performances not always convincing fans and pundits.
Spain have been the opposite at Euro 2024, with Luis de la Fuente's side winning all six of their games en route to the final while playing a largely exciting style of football. Their semifinal win over France included a record-breaking goal from Lamine Yamal.
A battle in Berlin will decide the title winner for 2024 as England feel the weight of history on their shoulders. They did at least defeat Spain the last time these teams met.

England vs. Spain head to head record, history, results
England and Spain have faced each other 27 times dating back to their first meeting in 1929. That has included two matches in the UEFA European Championship and two in the FIFA World Cup.
The overall record stands at 13 wins for England compared to 10 for Spain, with four draws.
England wins | Draws | Spain wins |
13 | 4 | 10 |
Legendary Spanish striker Telmo Zarra scored the winner in the first competitive meeting between the two sides at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil as Spain sealed a 1-0 victory.
England gained some revenge in 1968 as they won home and away to deny Spain a place at the European Championship that summer, but the Three Lions ended up third in a four-team tournament.
The 1980s saw a step up in the rivalry, but despite England beating La Roja 2-1 in the group stages of Euro 80, both sides bowed out at the first hurdle.
The 1982 World Cup in Spain saw the hosts hold England to a 0-0 draw in the second group stage in Madrid as the pair failed to reach the semifinals.
However, the most memorable recent meeting came in the quarterfinals of Euro 96 as hosts England won a penalty shootout against Spain at Wembley after a goalless draw.

Given they lost to Germany on spot kicks in the following round as Southgate infamously missed the key penalty, that victory over Spain stood as England's sole shootout win from 1990 to 2018.
Under Southgate's leadership, England have won one of three clashes with Spain, including the most recent: a 3-2 victory in the UEFA Nations League in October 2018.
