In what has shaped up into a surprising battle for European places, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United meet at the Amex Stadium for a midweek Premier League clash.

The Red Devils are in good shape as they look to secure a top-four spot but need to finish strong with Liverpool attempting to chase them down. United are in good form in that regard, unbeaten across their past seven matches in domestic competition, dating back to defeat at Newcastle United.

Brighton are in the opposite position, on the outside looking in and aiming to catch Aston Villa and Tottenham for a European place. The Seagulls sit eighth in the table, at least one spot outside the European places, and maybe more.

These two teams met just two weeks prior at Wembley in the FA Cup semifinals, playing to a 0-0 draw with Manchester United advancing to the final after a penalty shootout.

Brighton vs Man United prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Man United (+240)
  • Handicap lean: Man United +0.5 (-130)
  • Score prediction: Brighton 1-2 Man United

The hosts are favoured heavily in this match, with the visiting Red Devils at over 2/1 odds to win. Interestingly, despite having played to a scoreless draw last time out, goals are expected in a big way, with the over at nearly 1/2 and both teams massively expected to score.

Brighton are the darlings of the Premier League this season, and there's no question that Roberto De Zerbi has proven himself a top-class head coach. Yet they've shown signs of slipping for some time now, and the fact that they're such heavy favourites in this match against a Champions-League-caliber opponent is confusing.

Brighton vs Man United: best bet

    • Pick: Half with most goals — 1H
    • Odds: +200 (BetMGM)

Both these teams have been first-half sides of late, especially Brighton, who have scored the most goals (12) in the first 15 minutes of matches this Premier League season. Their 30 first-half goals put them joint-third behind just title contenders Man City and Arsenal, and their 49 percent first-half goal share places them joint-fourth in the league.

Meanwhile, four of Manchester United's past five goals in league play have come in the first half, showing just how Erik ten Hag has shifted towards unlocking his side earlier in matches to counteract their goal slump through the last month or so. Expect the first half to be open, while the leader will muck things up late.

Brighton vs Man United prop bet

    • Pick: Pascal Gross to score or assist
    • Odds: +130 (BetMGM)

The Brighton playmaker is back in a big way, scoring a pair against Wolves after quiet games in defeat to Nottingham Forest and that cup disappointment against Man United.

Pascal Gross is who makes everything work at Brighton under Roberto De Zerbi. In those two matches, Joel Veltman was out injured, which forced Gross to move to right-back, and thus neutering his effectiveness on the match. With Veltman back, Gross is unleashed yet again.

He has four goal contributions in his last five matches, and will play a big role against Man United now that he's back to his usual spot.
