Barnet vs Wrexham result, highlights as National League title charge is halted by 0-0 draw image

Wrexham's bid to win the National League title and claim an automatic promotion bid to League Two hit a bump after slipping to a 0-0 draw away at playoff chasing Barnet.

With three matches remaining, Wrexham's lead at the top could be cut to just a single point as second-place Notts County play later in the day.

Phil Parkinson's Wrexham side struggled to create openings against their stubborn hosts with Callum McFadzean's second half red card reducing the Welsh side to 10 players on 52 minutes.

That allowed Barnet to force themselves back into the contest in the final stages, with man-of-the-moment Ben Foster making a crucial late save for Wrexham, as the hosts wasted the chance to snatch a win.

Wrexham can still secure the National League title, and promotion to EFL League Two, with two wins from their final three league matches of 2022/23. Their next match comes on Tuesday at home to Yeovil Town.

Barnet vs Wrexham in National League clash

Final: Barnet 0-0 Wrexham

No goals — and just a single point for National League title chasing Wrexham — as Phil Parkinson's ten men suffered a bump on the road in their promotion push.

McFadzean's second half dismissal changed the tempo of tie as veteran goal keeper Ben Foster was once again the hero for Wrexham.

Six points from their final three matches will still be enough to seal the title.....next up Yeovil Town at home on April 18.

90+3 mins: More chaos in the Wrexham area as a cross is not cleared and Foster is there AGAIN to tip away for a corner!

90+1 mins: Another chance is passed up by Barnet.........substitute David Moyo is found inside the box.......but he scuffs wide! How did he miss that?

90 mins: Five minutes of added time.

85 mins: Wrexham being forced to hang on in the closing stages now as Smith and Ryan De Haviland both head off target!

80 mins: Into the final 10 minutes now.....will those 1,831 Wrexham fans see a late winner?

78 mins: Wrexham are still posing a threat, despite being down to 10 men! Tozer hurls a long throw into the Barnet box, and Eoghan O'Connell almost nods home, but the visitors manage to scramble clear!

75 mins: Barnet beginning to pile on the pressure now, as Foster bravely punches clear Danny Collinge's cross, and Harry Pritchard's blasted effort is deflected wide.

70 mins: Neither side have been able to build on that positive momentum as Smith heads over for Barnet.

62 mins: Chance Wrexham! And it's a big one.

The clearest opening of the contest....but Wrexham cannot take advantage!!!

Barnett breaks in behind the hosts defence, and a ricochet falls kindly for Palmer...but Walker springs to life with a superb stop!

Barnet substitute Nicke Kabamba brings a save from Foster at the other end......this tis starting to open up!!

52 mins: Red card for Wrexham!

Disaster for Wrexham, as the returning Callum McFadzean is adjudged to catch Barnet keeper Walker with a stray boot, and is shown a straight red card!!

A first red card of the season for Parkinson's promotion chasers!

50 mins: Barnet have made a positive start to the second half, as Wrexham soak up some pressure, and clear their lines.

46 mins: WE ARE BACK!!!! Can Wrexham find a winner in their National League title challenge?

Halftime: Barnet 0-0 Wrexham

All square at the break at The Hive, as Wrexham's title push has been blocked by a disciplined Barnet performance in the first 45 minutes. Lee's strike is the closest either side have come to a breakthrough, and the visitors will be looking for a second half response!!

44 mins: Super busy end to the first half, as Emmanuel Fernandez's header is deflected wide for Barnet, and Wrexham's rapid counter is stopped by Jordan Cropper's sliding tackle on Andy Cannon.

41 mins: A Wrexham corner is recycled back into the box, and Thomas O'Connor almost gets a touch on the ball, but some more solid defending from the hosts keeps him out.

Barnet then look to break on Wrexham, but captain Ben Tozer gets back to make a crucial interception.

37 mins: It's just not quite clicking for Wrexham so far, as Ryan Barnett's cross is too strong for Mullin and Ollie Palmer inside the box, and the chance is wasted.

33 mins: A half chance for Barnet, as Harry Smith almost brings down a dangerous cross into the box, but Wrexham react and clear.

30 mins: Still very tight, as we hit the half hour mark, with Lee's snapshot the only real opening at either end, and Barnet will be pleased with their containment job on the National League leaders.

18 mins: Wrexham are seeing the majority of the ball in the opening stages, as Mullin almost finds Lee again, but Walker is sharply off his line to gather.

Yet to really catch fire, but Wrexham will be looking to find a way through before the break.

12 mins: First chance of the game.... as Wrexham look to step up a gear. Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin exchanges passes just outside the box and Lee brings a smart stop from Barnet keeper Laurie Walker.

10 mins: A pretty cagey opening 10 minutes here in North London with the away end in fine voice since kickoff at the The Hive!

Kickoff: Barnet vs. Wrexham is underway.
