It's top against bottom in the French top flight as Angers host league leaders Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 action on Friday.

PSG have opened an eight-point lead atop the Ligue 1 table after topping then-second Lens at home last weekend. With no other competitions in play for the Parisians, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are on the home stretch to grab their only title remaining this season.

The season for PSG is already a disappointment given the early cup exits, but securing the league title would still provide some positive conclusion to the campaign. They could go as high as 11 points above Marseille, with Lens and Monaco just slightly behind them.

Angers, meanwhile, are in a huge hole at the bottom of the table, sitting on just 14 points and winning only one league game in 2023. Their -42 goal differential is bottom of the league as well, and they have conceded the most goals of anyone in the French top flight.

PSG have not been as destructive as their roster suggests they can be, leaving a decision for the owners regarding Christophe Galtier at the end of the season. Even against Lens with a man advantage for most of the match, they didn't look as dominant as they maybe could have been, especially in the second half.

Still, Angers are a team struggling in a big way. They secured their third win of the season against Lille last time out but even then were dominated on chance creation and managed to evade a worse result partly because of terrible finishing on the part of their opponents. In typical PSG fashion this year, they should come away victorious against a down side, but it won't be as sparkling as maybe some would expect.

    Angers vs PSG: best bet

    • Pick: Under 3.5 goals
    • Odds: -145 (BetMGM)

Since scoring 17 goals through the first three games of the league season, PSG have scored over three goals in a match just four times in 28 games. Under Christophe Galtier, they just aren't the attacking juggernaut fans want them to be.

Even with a man advantage against Lens last time out, PSG completely shut down the attack after halftime to hold onto a 3-0 lead. Galtier has not been prone to letting his players off the leash down the stretch, instead asking his side to kill time with meaningless possession and see out the game.

Last time out against Angers, after scoring five minutes into the game, PSG put a lid on the match and clung to the lead, only finding a second in the 72nd minute through Lionel Messi. In total, PSG took just nine shots, with a number of those coming down the stretch once Angers pretty much gave up. Don't expect Angers to score, but also don't expect PSG to run up the total.

    Angers vs PSG prop bet

    • Pick: PSG to win to nil
    • Odds: +110 (BetMGM)

The risk here is significant with respect to the odds, especially given PSG's defensive frailties over the past few weeks, but it's hard to imagine another likely result. The lack of creativity at Angers is shocking, without topping 1.14 expected goals since New Year's Day.

The last time these two teams played, Angers managed just 0.34 xG on six total shots, without putting a single effort on frame. While they are at home this time around, PSG have arguably been better away from the tense Parc des Princes atmosphere, and even at barely plus odds, this is a reasonable selection.
