Luka Doncic continues to shock the world each and every time he steps on the court for the Dallas Mavericks.

This contest against the San Antonio Spurs was no different as the 20-year-old superstar completely took over the game to not only hand their division rivals a sixth-consecutive loss, but also to join his favourite player in the NBA history books.

Doncic finished with a triple-double – his sixth of the season in just 13 games. But this one was special in something only he and LeBron James have done.

Doncic scored 42 points to go with 12 assists and 11 rebounds, making him the second 20-year-old in NBA history to have a 40-point triple-double.

And there's more to his historical start to the season than just going for triple-doubles nearly every other night.

Doncic is averaging 29.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game – he's in a league of his own in NBA history for players his age when it comes to two of those three categories, while the rebounds puts him in a group that includes two future Hall of Famers and arugably the best rebounder in the NBA today.

In a two-point game with the clock ticking down, Doncic stepped up for his team to reach the 40-point mark. He already had a career-high 39 points in a triple-double, but the step-back 3-pointer that sealed the game, also marked his spot in history.

After the game, Doncic gave all the praise to his teammate Dorian Finney-Smith, who also knocked down a back-breaking shot – "I'll say one word, Dorian Finney-Smith. That's it."

To have a performance like that and give the credit to your teammates – it speaks volumes on the special type of player that Doncic is. He's one-of-a-kind and he's going to continue to impress all season long as he looks to end the Mavericks' three-year playoff drought.
