Rohit Sharma: 2023 World Cup is going to be very competitive image

The dates for the 2023 ODI World Cup are out and the venues for all the games have been decided. India will take on Australia in their World Cup opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8.

India captain Rohit Sharma believes that this year's World Cup will be a fiercely contested event, thanks to T20 cricket, which has seen the sport evolve and the game being played at a much faster speed.

India will hope they have a blueprint in place, too, as they aim to win the World Cup after a gap of 12 years. Not just that, but they last won an ICC trophy in 2013, when they defeated England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy.

The game has become faster: Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain did not directly mention T20 cricket, but from what he was trying to say, it can be implied that T20 cricket has played a huge role in how cricket is played nowadays as compared to a decade ago.

“This World Cup is going to be very competitive as the game has become faster and teams are playing more positively than ever before,” Rohit was quoted as saying in an ICC release.

“All this augurs well for fans worldwide, promising them many thrilling moments. We look forward to preparing well and being at our best this October-November.”
