The inaugural edition of the World Championship of Legends tournament kicked off on July 3 at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. India Champions led by the legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh defeated Kevin Peitersen’s England Champions by four wickets in the opening game of the tournament.

As the name suggests, teams composed of legendary players that have dominated the game in the past will be competing in the 10-day long tournament. 

Apart from England and India, South Africa Champions, Pakistan Champions, Australia Champions led by and the West Indies Champions are the other teams participating in the competition, led by skippers Jacques Kallis, Shahid Afridi, Brett Lee and Chris Gayle respectively.

What is the format of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024?

The WCL 2024 follows the round robin format consisting of six teams. Each team will be playing five games after which the top four teams in the table will qualify for the semi-final while the other two will be knocked off from the tournament. 

Both semi-final of the tournament are set to be played on July 12 followed by the Final on July 13 at Edgbaston. 

So far two teams in Australia Champions and Pakistan Champions have qualified for the semi-final round while any two of India, South Africa or West Indies could make the final four. England Champions have been knocked out having won just one game out of the five. 

Australia Champions will be playing their Final game against West Indies Champions while India Champions will be taking on South Africa Champions to determine the final two semi-finalists.
