Women's cricket has grown exponentially in the last few years and is now jostling for space with leagues around the world.
One such league is The Hundred, which was launched by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2021. The unique tournament format sees teams compete in an 100-ball innings. Bowlers are allowed to bowl either five or ten consecutive deliveries, with each bowler delivering a maximum of 20 deliveries.
The 2023 edition, which will be held from 1-27 August, will feature eight franchises, each with a men's and women's team. Both men’s and women’s matches are held back-to-back in the same venue, with equal prize money for the winners.
The eight teams competing include Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets, and the Welsh Fire.

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was a part of the 2022 edition, was released ahead of the 2023 season. She played for Birmingham Phoenix in the previous edition.
The decision to release Sharma was presumably taken after she ran Charlotte Dean out in an ODI match between India and England in September 2022.
