India captain Rohit Sharma revealed on Wednesday, May 2, that Shivam Dube will be expected to perform part-time bowling duties at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Dube was named in the 15-man squad announced by the BCCI on Tuesday earlier this week, thanks to his scintillating batting performances for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024.

Earlier this year, he made his return to the Indian T20I setup against Afghanistan, scoring a couple half-centuries and picking a few wickets, too.

This year, however, Dube has bowled just one over in the IPL, taking one wicket and conceding 14 runs. He has been mainly used as an 'impact player', coming in during the middle overs and decimating bowling lineups at will.

Rohit Sharma expects Shivam Dube to contribute with the ball at 2024 T20 World Cup

Rohit acknowledged the fact that Dube has barely bowled in IPL 2024. However, he admitted that he would be banking on his bowling credentials at the ICC tournament next month.

Unfortunately, Shivam hasn't bowled in the IPL. However, he's a seasoned bowler, has experience bowling a lot in red-ball. Honestly, we'll be expecting from Shivam [to contribute with the ball]. If we want him to bowl three overs, he'll bowl three overs. Same for Hardik, he's been bowling regularly in the IPL. Like Ajit said, he’s played all games. Fitness wise no issues.
