Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has rejoined the Indian Cements group where he will take charge of an important role at the Chennai Super Kings High Performance Centre, which is expected to be functional before the start of the next IPL 2025 season.

The move has created a possibility for Ashwin to reunite with CSK in the IPL 2025 season. With the player auctions scheduled for next year, the franchise can either pick up him after bidding or in the form of a trade post the auctions.

Will Ravichandran Ashwin play for CSK in IPL 2025?

The Tamil Nadu born cricketer was part of the CSK franchise from 2008 to 2015 where he was part of 2 championship teams, before moving to Rising Pune Super Giants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and is currently a part of the Rajasthan Royals setup.

Speaking to reporters about R Ashwin's reuniting as a player at the franchise, CSK CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, said:

“That totally depends on the auction dynamics because we can’t have control over it. We have to wait and see if the opportunity presents itself. First up, he will be taking charge of our High Performance centre, and will handle the cricketing side of it including the programmes and everything. We have signed him back. He is now part of the CSK venture and will also play for the India Cements teams in the TNCA First-Division."

According to reports, Ashwin's move back to Indian Cements had been in the works for a couple of years. Before the start of the IPL 2024 season, the off spinner also took part in an event to celebrate his landmark of 100th Test match and 500 Test wickets for Team India.

N Srinivasan, owner of Indian Cements, who was present at the same event praised Ashwin and said:

“You [Ashwin] have a big role to play going forward."

“Growing the game and contributing to the cricketing fraternity is my primary focus,” Ashwin said, after taking up the new role at Indian Cements.

How can Ravichandran Ashwin join CSK in IPL 2025?

CSK might have tried to acquire Ashwin as a part of a trade with the Rajasthan Royals but given that the big player auctions are set to take place next year, the chance of a trade is ruled out. This is because RR will not be able to retain him ahead of the auction.

Therefore, CSK might look to target the star spinner by bidding for him in the auctions. However, given the auction dynamics, there is a possibility for the franchise to miss out on him there. In case they fail to pick him up at the bidding, they will have to work out a trade with another team after the conclusion of the auction.

The HPC (High Performance Center) is expected to be the franchise's one-stop place for players from Chennai, Johannesburg and Texas to train round the year.
