Will Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer be fit enough to play Asia Cup 2023? image

India's star batter Shreyas Iyer and ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah are reportedly set to make a comeback into the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023.

The report by ESPNCricinfo also states that this could mean the duo are ready for the 2023 World Cup.

Due to a back issue, Bumrah has been sidelined since September 2022 and was unable to participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.

Bumrah had a lower back operation in New Zealand in April. Successful medical treatment allowed Bumrah to be pain-free. He also missed the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

While Shreyas made the decision to have back surgery in April to treat his chronic lower-back pain, his lower back's protruding disc was a regular source of discomfort for him. He was forced to withdraw from the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March in Ahmedabad as a result. Later, in May, he had surgery in London.

Both Bumrah and Shreyas are currently receiving treatment at the NCA. The NCA medical team is hopeful that both players will be able to compete in the Asia Cup in September.

Although Bumrah has reportedly started light bowling workloads that will progressively increase, it is believed that he is primarily doing physiotherapy. On the other hand, Shreyas is currently doing only physiotherapy and is yet to begin training.
