Afghanistan left-arm chinaman bowler Noor Ahmad has been banned from participating in the International League T20 (ILT20) for 12 months.

On Tuesday, February 20, the disciplinary committee of ILT20 handed Ahmad a 12-month ban on the grounds of breaching his ILT20 contract with Sharjah Warriors.

The 19-year-old is the second Afghan player to be banned from ILT20 in recent months after pacer Naveen ul-Haq was banned for the same reason for 20 months.

Why was Noor Ahmad handed a ban by ILT20?

The 19-year-old, who the Warriors signed in 2023, chose not to sign the retention notice in favor of continuing to play for the Durban Super Giants in SA20.

The Warriors were forced to contact the ILT20 to take additional action regarding Noor's unwillingness to sign the player agreement contract.

Before rendering a final decision, the disciplinary committee convened separate hearings for the player and the franchise.

"Noor played for Sharjah Warriors in Season 1 of the ILT20 (January-February 2023) who sent him a retention notice on the same terms and conditions under the Player Agreement terms ahead of Season 2," ILT20 stated in their official statement.

"Following Noor’s refusal, the Sharjah Warriors approached the ILT20 to intervene in this dispute.

"The committee had initially recommended a 20-month ban but took into consideration the fact that Noor was a minor at the time of signing the Player Agreement and has represented to the committee that his agent had not informed him of the full terms of the contract and as such pardoned eight months from his original ban."
