Rahul Dravid, the head coach under whom Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 will only be taking up Rs 2.5 crores cash reward, over the Rs 5 crores bonus that he was offered earlier.
The former India cricketer stepped down from his post after the completion of his tenure as Team India's head coach. His term ended on a success as the Indian team secured the World Cup in Barbados and ended a decade-long drought of ICC trophies. Why was Rahul Dravid's cash reward reduced from Rs 5 Cr to Rs 2.5 Cr?
As the head coach of the T20 World Cup winning Indian team, Rahul Dravid was offered a 5 crores reward, but he refused the offer and took only 2.5 crores, which is the same as the rest of his support staff.
The outgoing coach known for his values and principles, continued to show his class by declining such a huge cash reward, which would have otherwise seen him receive the same amount as the 15 players in the squad.

“Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,” a BCCI source told Hindustan times.
The Rs 125 crores cash reward was set to be rewarded among the 42 member Indian contingent that travelled for the T20 World Cup 2024. The 15-member squad of players received Rs 5 crores each, while the four reserve players received one crore each.
The core support staff that includes batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, were rewarded with Rs 2.5 crores each.
On the other hand, Dravid was initially set to receive Rs 5 crores, which was later reduced to Rs 2.5 crores, upon his insistence.
This is not the first time that Dravid has made a similar gesture. As the head coach of India’s winning U-19 World Cup team of 2018, he refused to take the Rs 50 lakhs cash reward that he was initially offered, as he reduced it to just Rs 20 lakhs, which was the same as his support staff in that tournament. He believed that the BCCI should award everyone equally, for their contributions.
