The two players have travelled with the main squad to Lauderhill, Florida. There is a doubt if the team will be able to take part in a training session at the ground due to the weather and a state of emergency has been declared in several areas including Broward County, where the cricket stadium is. located.

Why are Team India releasing Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan during T20 World Cup?

According to Cricbuzz reports, both Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan have travelled with the team to Fort Lauderale in Florida on a chartered flight for Team India's match against Canada.

The two reserve players - opening batter, Gill and fast bowler, Avesh, were supposedly only picked up in the squad for the US leg of the tournament as backups, for the case of unforeseen injuries. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would have otherwise found it difficult to send a replacement from India on a short notice to replace an injured player in the USA or the Caribbean.

As the team was expected to play the Super Eight stage of the World Cup in the Caribbean, the selected squad had been loaded up with spinners. The pitches in the West Indies have generally aided spin bowling.

With enough pacers in the squad and a backup opener in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill and Avesh's services as reserve players were no longer required.

However, if need arises for a backup player, the team already has two other reserve players in Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, who can fill in as a replacement in the main squad, for the Caribbean leg.
