The Indian Premier League (IPL) will enter it's 17th year in 2024 as the world's most popular franchise cricket league keeps improving with every passing season.

The inaugural IPL was in 2008 and was won by Rajasthan Royals (RR), but they have failed to win a single title since then.

In 2023, the-then defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) took on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final, with the latter winning their fifth IPL title, a record they share with their biggest rivals, Mumbai Indians (MI).

With the auction taking place on Tuesday, December 19, The Sporting News takes an early look at the odds for each team to win IPL 2024.

Who will win IPL 2024? Favourites and early betting odds

According to Dafabet, CSK are among the favourites to defend their crown to win a record-sixth IPL title, helped by the fact that MS Dhoni will continue to lead them.

Their rivals, MI, are the joint-favourites to lift the title. One can always expect a final between MI and CSK, who are a part of IPL's most fierce rivalry.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are expected to be the least likely to win IPL 2024. They broke the IPL franchise record in the auction to sign Australian World Cup winning captain Pat Cummins, but they finished 10th in the table in IPL 2023.

Kolkata Knight Riders, who later broke the record again to sign Mitchell Starc, are rated as sixth favourites.
