However, rising political tensions especially since 2008 mean that the sides have not played a bilateral series against each other since 2012, and not met in a Test match since 2007, a gap of 17 years now. They have, however, met several times in ICC tournaments.
Next month, there will be another clash between the teams as they play at the T20 World Cup.

India and Pakistan met each other twice at the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007. India won the first match on a bowlout after the scores were level, and then won the final to clinch the trophy.
They are scheduled to meet in New York on June 9 in the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup. In a press conference on Tuesday, former Pakistan captain Younis Khan gave his thoughts on the clash, saying,
No one can be called favourites in India Pakistan match because it's fifty fifty chances. Indo-Pak match is not only about talent but mental toughness as well.
The last time India and Pakistan met in the T20 World Cup was in the 2022 edition, in Melbourne. On that occasion, Pakistan put up 159/8 before reducing India to 31/4. However, a superb innings from Virat Kohli (82*) along with Hardik Pandya's knock of 40 helped India get over the line in a last-ball thriller.
