India is one of the most formidable countries in cricket for quite a while now, thanks to its incredible talent pool that has churned some absolute superstars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Selecting the Indian cricket team cannot be an easy job by any means, given the quality of players the country has.
But who does that thankless job? Who selects the Indian cricket team?
It is the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that selects members of the Indian cricket team.

The BCCI has recently posted a job opening for the role of a member of the Selection Committee. This is a result of the resignation of the former Chief-Selector, Chetan Sharma, in February 2023.
The BCCI took to Twitter to share the application link with a caption, “BCCI invites applications for one member of Men’s Selection Committee post."
To apply for a seat in the Selection Committee, the candidate should have played a minimum of 7 Test matches, or 30 First Class matches, or 10 One Day International matches and 20 First Class matches. He/she should also have retired from the game at least 5 years ago.
Who are the current members of the BCCI Selection Panel?
The current members of the BCCI Selection Committee are Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sridharan Sharath, and Shiv Sunder Das. The committee usually has five chairs, and is a member short, after the resignation of Chetan Sharma from the post of Chief Selector.
Shiv Sunder Das has been acting as the Interim Chief Selector. It remains to be seen if Das will be given the permanent role as the chief. BCCI has not specified the role of the job in their application.

The application is in the search of a member from the North Zone. Should the BCCI fail to appoint someone through the application rounds, then former wicket-keeper Ajay Ratra is an option. Another choice to consider could be BCCI Panel Commentator, Vivek Razdan.
