According to a report from Pakistani media outlet Geo Newsthe Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) placed an advertisement on Saturday, seeking new candidates for the vacant head coach positions for both red-ball and white-ball formats.

The PCB is looking for candidates with at least five years of experience coaching both domestic and international teams, as well as Level III Cricket Coaching Accreditation.

"We are seeking applications from dynamic individuals who will deliver integrated coaching support to our national team across different formats," the board's press release stated.

The deadline for the submission of applications has been set till 5 PM (Pakistan time), 15th April.

The announcement coincides with the fact that the roles were among those that remained unfilled following the resignations of Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick in January earlier this year.

The trio were moved to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore due to changes in their portfolios in November 2023.

Who is in the race to become the next Pakistan coach?

Several renowned former cricketers such as Darren Sammy, Shane Watson, and Jason Gillespie have been approached by the PCB to take over as the coach of Pakistan; they have, however, rejected the advances in lieu of other commitments.

Luke Ronchi refutes claims linking him to the Pakistan coaching role

According to multiple reports, the PCB subsequently contacted Luke Ronchi on the aforementioned post after finding no luck with either of Sammy, Watson, and Gillespie. Ronchi has requested some time to consider the possibility of leading the Men in Green. The former New Zealand player is currently serving as the assistant coach of the New Zealand cricket team.

The board were keen to rope Ronchi in given his familiarity with Pakistan cricket. He was the coach of the Islamabad United side that recently clinched the Pakistan Super League (PSL) title.

Ronchi, however, denied claims that he was inching closer to signing the contract with PCB, according to Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq.

Other names linked to the role in recent weeks include Gary Kirsten and Mike Hesson.
