Who is currently the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team?
The post of the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team was left vacant since Ramesh Pawar left the position in 2022.
In October 2023, though, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that they had appointed former batsman Amol Muzumdar as the new head coach of the women's team.
Muzumdar was born in Mumbai and made his first-class debut in the 1993-94 season of the Ranji Trophy, scoring 260 runs on debut against Haryana.
The right-handed batsman has an incredible first-class record, amassing 11,167 runs in 171 games at an average of 48.13. He scored 30 centuries as he played for Mumbai and Assam and was nicknamed the 'next Tendulkar' when he burst onto the scene.
However, he was never awarded the prestigious Indian cap during his career. Muzumdar was the perfect example of being the victim of being born in the wrong era, as players such as Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Virender Sehwag would go on and cement their places in the lineup.

What has Amol Muzumdar said since getting hired?
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I against England, Muzumdar appeared before the media and talked about the team's preparations and why the upcoming bilateral series against England and Australia holds importance for the entire unit.
It’s been great so far, about 15 days. We had a small camp at the National Cricket Academy and even played a four-day game. It’s been fantastic to be with the team and I’m really looking forward to the season. We’re building towards next year’s T20 World Cup and every game has importance. The ones against England and Australia will count a lot.
The 49-year-old also explained what his biggest priorities are as the coach and what changes he wants to bring about.
Fielding and fitness are of the highest priority, there’ll be no compromise in that regard. There will be a lot of camps conducted after this series. There’ll be a lot of cricket played. More exposure, fitness and fielding will be my top priorities. The new players and the fringe ones will also get lots of opportunities.
We’ve already had fitness tests done at the NCA, and we’ll follow them rigorously going forward. There will be three such tests each season. Fearless cricket is something I always advocate, so we will be playing that brand.
The team will certainly look to put the disappointments of the past firmly behind them and aim for a major tournament glory under the tutelage of Muzumdar.
