Gujarat Titans' Shubman Gill is on a mission to break and make records in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young opener is cutting through the bowling attacks of the opposition like a hot knife through butter. And he almost registered the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in the IPL on Friday.
In the Qualifier 2 match against the Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad, Gill went on the rampage, scoring his third century of the season. With an innings of 129, he is now second on the list of the highest individual score by an Indian in an inning in the history of IPL.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form throughout the season. He will be the Orange Cap Holder at the end of the season and has already scored over 825 runs and counting in IPL 2023. In a stellar display across 16 innings, Gill continues to etch his name in some elite list of records.
Gill scored 129 in 60 balls, with seven fours and ten sixes. To everyone’s dismay, he could not break Rahul’s record of an unbeaten 132 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020. Rahul played throughout 20 overs, hitting 14 boundaries and 7 maximums.
Rishabh Pant is a narrow third on the list, as he scored an unbeaten 128 off 63 deliveries for the Delhi Daredevils (Now, Delhi Capitals) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. Murali Vijay’s 127 for Chennai Super Kings in the 2010 season is fourth on the list.
