Aaron Jones burst into the limelight on Saturday as he guided USA to a seven-wicket win in the T20 World Cup opener.

Jones scored an unbeaten knock of 94 from just 40 balls, against Canada in the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament-opener. USA had their moment early on in the tournament, with a record victory on T20 World Cup debut.

The USA vice-captain showed leadership when it mattered the most, hammering ten sixes on his T20 World Cup debut. Jones also hit the second-highest individual score on T20 WC debut, only behind the legendary Chris Gayle.

Who is Aaron Jones?

Aaron Jones was born on October 19, 1994, in New York, to parents of West-Indies origin. Being able to represent West Indies by birth, Jones always dreamt of playing for the Caribbean nation.

The 29-year-old however, had to settle for representing the United States, which in itself is no small a feat. In his early days, Jones played alongside current Windies internationals, Shai Hope and Jason Holder, against the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell.

What is Aaron Jones' batting and bowling style?

Jones is a right-handed middle-order batter, who can bowl part-time leg-spin too. Being of Carribean descent, it is only fitting that Jones can smash the ball as hard as anyone.

The New York-raised batter does not boast a hefty strike rate yet, but his heroics against Canada at the T20 World Cup 2024 has shown he can tonk the ball at will.

Which T20 leagues has Aaron Jones played in?

Aaron Jones has plied his trade in various T20 leagues around the world. He was picked by Rangpur Riders for Bangladesh Premier Legaue 2023, and also by Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket 2023. 

Jones has also been a part of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Carribean Premier League.

When did Aaron Jones make his USA debut?

After initially dreaming of representing West Indies, Jones realised his dream partially, by playing for the country he was born in. The 29-year-old made his USA debut in 2019 as a 24-year-old.

Jones represented USA for the first time in a T20 game against United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 15, 2019. In the USA's tour of UAE, Jones was selected for the first game of the two-match bilateral series.

He made his ODI debut within a month of realising his T20I dream. He played the 50-over game against Papua New Guinea on April 27.
