After a slow start to their season, Mumbai Indians (MI) seem to be hitting their strides in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have won three of their last four matches, and all of the wins have been 200+ chases. In their most recent win on Tuesday night against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai broke a few IPL records.
Mumbai comprehensively defeated arch-rivals RCB in a landmark win at the Wankhede stadium. RCB, batting first, set a whopping target of 200 runs for the hosts. Faf du Plessis (65) and Glenn Maxwell (68) got RCB off to a great start only for MI to pull them back and restrict the total to 199.

In the chase, Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai the ideal start with a quickfire 42. However, RCB struck back by dismissing him and skipper Rohit Sharma in the fifth over. But Nehal Wadhera’s unbeaten 52 off 34 helped MI tide over the crisis. And the hero of the night was local lad Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 83 runs at a strike rate of 237. Mumbai Indians broke multiple records in the process.
They became the first team to chase totals above 200 runs, thrice in a single season. Before yesterday, MI already chased targets above 200 against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Earlier at Mohali, Ishan and Surya ran riot against Arshdeep Singh to chase down a target of 215 within 19 overs. Against Rajasthan, Mumbai chased down a similar target to win the encounter in the last over, with Tim David slamming three sixes.

Rohit Sharma & co. also broke a six-year-old record last night. After chasing the target in 16.3 overs, they set a record for chasing a 200-plus total with maximum balls to spare. The record was held by Delhi Capitals previously. They had chased down 208 runs against Gujarat Lions with 15 balls to spare in 2017.
