The hosts will be missing the services of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested for the fourth Test. Also missing from the squad are Virat Kohli (personal reasons), KL Rahul (injured) and Shreyas Iyer (dropped).
With Iyer and Rahul missing from the middle-order, India could hand Test debut to Devdutt Paddikal. In the last Test, Sarfaraz Khan won his first India cap and made the most of it by scoring two half-centuries.
According to reports, the pitch in Ranchi is likely to be spin friendly. On Wednesday, Ben Stokes was left baffled by the track.
"If you looked down one side of opposite ends it just looked different to what I am used to seeing, especially out in India. It looked green and grassy up in the changing rooms, but then you go out there it looked different: very dark and crumbly and quite a few cracks in it," the England captain remarked.
