The ODI series against West Indies was only the second time Hardik had led the country in the format. While he lost the second ODI as captain, he then led India to victory in the third ODI.

In March 2023, Hardik stood in as captain for Rohit Sharma against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Putting the visitors in to bat, India bowled them out for 189 before KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja steered the Men in Blue to victory with 10.1 overs to spare.
What is India's record in T20s under Hardik Pandya?
Hardik has regularly been named India captain for certain T20 bilateral series. The first occasion was in June 2022, on India's tour of Ireland. India won the series 2-0, chasing down 109 in 9.2 overs in a rain-shortened first game before defending 225 in a thriller in the second T20.

Hardik's first loss as India captain came in January 2023 in Pune against Sri Lanka, when opposition captain Dasun Shanaka's 22-ball 56 powered the visitors to 206 in 20 overs. India fell 16 runs short despite fighting efforts from Suryakumar Yadav (51) and Axar Patel (65).
He has captained in a total of 16 T20Is for India.
