Two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in English international Jason Roy as a replacement for their captain Shreyas Iyer.
Roy, whose base price at the IPL 2023 auction was INR 1.5 crore has been signed for INR 2.8 crore by the Kolkata-based franchise.
KKR skipper Iyer was ruled out of action due to a lower back injury that he suffered during the Border Gavaskar Series against Australia last month.

While the England opener replaces the team captain, KKR are yet to announce a replacement of Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who communicated his unavailability to the team management citing national team commitments and personal issues.
Who is Jason Roy? KKR's replacement for Shreyas Iyer
The 32-year-old is a white-ball specialist opening batsman of the England national team. He has appeared in 113 ODIs and 64 T20Is for his national team where he scored 4116 and 1522 runs respectively. Roy has also appeared in five Test matches where he scored 187 runs.

Which teams has Jason Roy played for in IPL?
Roy made his IPL debut at the now-defunct franchise Gujarat Lions in 2017. In 2018, he joined Delhi Capitals where he played five matches and scored 120 runs.
In the IPL 2020 auction, the Delhi franchise once again bought the player but he opted out of the tournament citing personal reasons. In 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh.

Gujarat Titans bought him at the IPL 2022 auction but he pulled out of the tournament just before the start due to concerns over the bio-bubble restrictions due to Covid-19.
